Description

Jagadguru Shri Madhvacharya

Jagadguru śrī madhvacharya, also known as śrī ānanda tīrtha and śrī pūrṇaprajña, was a prominent vedāntin, philosopher and theologian who lived in bhārata during the 13th century. He is considered one of the greatest exponents of tattvavāda, a realist-theist-synthesist school of vaidika hindu philosophy that emphasizes the eternal ontological dependence of the jīva-s (~ individual soul) on the Brahman (~ supreme being).

Why jagadguru Madhvacharya is Worshipped

At the end of dvāpara yuga, when owing to the curse of ṛṣi gautama, there was erosion of vaidika jñāna from both the wise and the laity and the whole world was stooped in erroneous beliefs, spurious intellectual dogmas, superstition, and general proclivity towards materialism, the devatā-s lead by brahma and śiva approached bhagavān viṣṇu to remediate the situation and provide succour to the deserving sātvika jīva-s. bhagavān viṣṇu at once ordered mukhyaprāṇa – also known as vāyu – to appear on the earthly realm to once again establish the original sanātana vaidika dharma. The same vāyu, who had earlier manifested as hanumān and bhīma during treta & dvāpara respectively, took his third form as śrī madhvācārya accordingly to reestablish & propagate the sanātana vaidika dharma. Upāsana or worship of śrī madhvācārya helps the aspirant, per one’s merit, in the following ways:

1] thwart the ill effects of kaliyuga that corrupt the intrinsic sātvika nature of jīva-s;

2] remediate the erroneous forms of worship and tāmasic sādhana-s;

3] reestablish oneself in the sanātana vaidika dharma that ultimately leads to mokṣa;

4] attain jñāna, bhakti, & vairāgya that can accelerate sādhanā;

5] obtain anubhava-siddha jñāna – experiential wisdom – that can be corroborated by vaidika saṁpradāya;

6] protect oneself from falling prey to spiritual businessmen;

7] achieve steadfastness in sādhanā;

8] progress in prāṇopāsanā that is essential to become eligible for praṇovaopāsanā.
